Holiday Road Internet Marketing Thoughts

In last weeks blog our readers were subjected to a very long and detailed essay from Seth – I will not be doing that!

This month, I’m on vacation and had the opportunity to visit South Lake Tahoe and one of our fantastic clients at Tahoe’s premier vacation rental company Accommodation Station.

We spent some time meeting last Sunday, and as usual, an on site meeting can be very helpful. Many times, me included, tech oriented companies rely too much on emails, phone calls and virtual meetings. So needless to say, a face-to-face meeting with a client can be quite productive (minus the 14 hr drive…more on that some other time). So what’s the point here?

I am often asked, “What’s next? What else can we be doing? What does Web 2.0 mean to my business?”

Here are some things that are working for our clients in the vacation rental industry today. These are 3 relatively inexpensive steps to improving your day to day web site user experience, SEO relevancy and mapping needs.

1) Start a guest photo contest. We all know how hard it is to keep photos on your site up to date all the time. Let your guests send you their best pics, I think you will be surprised to see what you get.

2) Create a You Tube Account. Get your guests to send you a home video of their trip. With new cameras and the ease of uploading, this will become a bigger and bigger component to your content development over time.

3) Integrate Google Maps + Google Earth. Map your location, your area. This is a closing tool for your site. Use it!

Happy end of summer!
